Club Newsletter- February 2022

[Also sent by email to all current members]

After a challenging two years for all of us, I am pleased to report that the Club is returning back to near normality and we are welcoming back our regular members. I am also pleased to report that we are seeing an extremely high number of new family members who have joined the Club over the past three to four months.

Looking ahead to 2022, it is important for West Hants to keep you informed of developing events and, particularly, our vision for the future.

It is our intention to continue to deliver a first class and memorable experience each time you visit our Club, as we recognise the importance of your valuable leisure and fitness time.

We recently, and independently, held an ‘employee survey’ to understand the immediate and future needs of our staff, with a brief to understand how they felt about the Club and establish the needs for their support, communications, development and career aspirations. This correct focus also ensures we have professional and qualified staff to support our membership – we hope you agree?

Please connect directly with our Management team or any member of staff

We value your input as we look to continually make improvements of our Club, therefore if you have any thoughts or ideas on how we can extend that value or experience, we would ask that you approach the Club Staff and Management Team directly to respond effectively as possible.

As an example of this we recently were approached by a small number of members who had some suggestions on Pilates scheduling.  By listening, we have added a new Pilates class to the timetable (Mondays at 1.30pm with Anita) and removed swimming pool bookings enabling more of you to swim at your convenience, a return to our pre-pandemic system.

Key Developing Topics

• Padel Tennis Development – The Club has submitted a planning application to build three courts on the Centre Court. The seating will not be removed and we will be building acoustic fencing around the courts to reduce the disruption.

• Sponsorship – The Club is extremely fortunate in having the support of several business partners and we will shortly be announcing the further support of two businesses. We use these funds to support local youngsters and their continued support in greatly appreciated.

• Squash Exhibition – The Club is sponsored by Dunlop and a benefit is that Nick Matthew OBE will be at the Club for a day to provide coaching for you our juniors which will be followed by an exhibition match. Nick was the world champion on three occasions!

• Increased activity – As the new normal returns it is great to see so many members enjoying the Club. We have organised a whole range of coaching activities, specialist workshops, themed evenings and tournaments which will hopefully enhance your use of the Club. Further details are within the newsletter.

Tennis Tournament and Team GB Selection

We have some exciting news to share that four of our senior tennis members have been selected for Team GB at this year's World Team Championships in Florida, with two of them Captaining the teams in their respective age groups. Our congratulations go to Boyd Brackstone and Pauline Fisher on their GB selection and Andy Phillips and Matt Coombes who will be GB Captains.

Announcing soon – a new initiative ‘Members Communications Evening’

The West Hants Club has always been active in delivering communications and ensuring that we update all of our members on developments, activities and initiatives through our website, social media and directly to your email box.  We were recently asked by a small group of members if it was possible to have an annual members communications meeting - the West Hants Board agreed that this was a good idea, therefore we will be announcing shortly of a meeting to be held around April 2022.

We will be updating our members:

• On the progressive continued developments of the West Hants Club, some referenced above.

• The Club Vision of the future including the Corporate Governance.

• Update on the future West Hants Board selection process and opportunity for members to register their interest for Board consideration.

We hope members will attend this inaugural ‘Members communications evening’ - watch out for this date!

Thank you

Thank you to our members

Thank you for your continued support which is particularly appreciated as we continue to take a considered approach to the management of the Club during the nation's current phase of moving through the pandemic.

As stated earlier it has been a challenging two years and I am delighted that the club is busy and we will hopefully have a positive, enjoyable and successful year ahead.

Please continue to keep your eyes peeled for any updates on our website, social media channels, and your email inbox.

Kind Regards

Peter D Elviss
