Padel Courts Progressing
The padel courts are progressing well and it is hoped that with some good weather the ring beams for the courts will be in place this month. I apologise for the temporary closure of the two bubbles at the start of February, but an electric cable was damaged when they were preparing the ground works.
Weekly Court Access - an update
At this time of year, I get consistent complaints about access to indoor tennis courts and this subject was discussed at length at the recent Board meeting. It was agreed that the rules should be reviewed, and the number of weekly hours should be reduced from seven hours to five hours.
It was felt that this represents excellent value and as the vast majority of people do not play seven hours per week, this change would enable more people to book courts.
Juniors representing GB!
Our juniors are off to a flying start in 2025, with three representing Great Britain!
- Shantanu played for GB 11U Boys in a friendly match against Belgium which took place in Corby.
- Grace was part of the 14U GB Team that played the European Winter Cup qulaifying events in Portugal and Sweden respectively.
- Daniella was part of the GB 16U Team
- Both Grace and Daniella contributed to their teams qualifying for the European finals which take place this month in the Czech republic and France. Daniellas 16U team won fixtures against Finland, Spain and Hungary, and Grace's 14U team beat Croatia, Switzerland and Denmark to progress through the qualifying draws!

Reformer Pilates - Beginners Course
The Reformer Pilates studio has proven extremely popular and we are excited to be launching short courses later this month - click here for more details including how to book! Our weekly timetable continues to expand, we will monitor usage and increase classes as more instructors join us and/or become qualified so please keep checking.
Saturday Tennis Club Afternoon Bookings
We want to take an opportunity to remind members of the booking process for Saturday Club Afternoons which helps to ensure that courts are used efficiently and that all members have fair access:
- Players can only sign in from 3pm on the day.
- You can only book when you are present at Reception, not over the phone.
- Players can only sign themselves in and not other members.
- The first 16 players signed in will play first; players signed in after this will go on court on the next rotation after 30 minutes.
For Thursday Club Night, bookings can be made from 12pm on the day either via the app or Reception.
Late Cancellations and No-shows - a reminder
This is a friendly reminder of our Club rules, especially regarding cancellations and no-shows. Please be mindful of the 24-hour cancellation policy for all bookings, as last-minute cancellations prevent other members from booking the court or attending a class. We do have a late cancellation/no-show penalty process in place to ensure fairness and availability for all members. We kindly ask you to respect these rules to maintain a smooth and equitable experience for everyone.
Guest visits on the first Sunday of each month
As we’ve seen an increase in member activity at weekends, we have reviewed our offerings to ensure that we can continue providing the best possible experience for all of our members. Therefore, after careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue the “Bring a Friend” scheme with immediate effect. This change will allow us to better prioritise member usage and help us manage Club resources more effectively.
Enter Globacare's competition - £100 voucher and individual tennis coaching!
I am pleased to report that Globacare (Health and Life Insurance experts) have continued their Business Partnership with the club for the fifth year. Globacare have kindly provided all our juniors with a complimentary t-shirt which is really appreciated. Tobias Britton said “he was pleased to continue the Business Partnership and as a keen tennis player he is continually amazed at the determination and high standards of play amongst our junior members.
Tobias Britton would like to offer our members the opportunity to win a £100 voucher towards Dunlop Rackets and the opportunity of 6 hours free individual coaching.
To enter please answer the following question and email your answer to info@westhants.co.uk by 6pm Friday 14th February 2025. The lucky winner will be notified once the draw has taken place at 7pm. This competition is only available for members and there is one entry per person.
Question: Which American former grand slam champion, did ex West Hants/Talbot Heath Academy player Jodie Burrage play in the second round of this year’s Australian Open?
Peter Elviss is delighted that Globacare has continued the partnership, and it enables us to continue our junior programme.
