Club Newsletter - June 2022

As we enter the summer months, there is plenty to share with you about Club life!
Those who are interested in life behind the scenes should note that our current planning application for building more padel courts has at this point of time been turned down due to noise levels and disturbance to local residents. We know how popular padel tennis is with our members and to the wider community as we see padel tennis evolving at a pace nationally. We are regrouping our thoughts and planning options and will keep you informed of any new developments.
Further to my email dated 21st May 2022, we have received positive news from the HMRC who have written to the West Hants to confirm that they are in favour of the West Hants registering as a charity with the Charity Commission. In relation to the technical breach of CASC regulations, HMRC also confirmed that conversion from a CASC to a charity is 'appropriate reparation in the circumstances', which confirms the advice of our advisory team and is reassuring to our Board of Directors and Club members.
Tennis season is here
Wimbledon is approaching fast, a spectacle we all enjoy watching and also notifies us that the tennis season is here!
It was wonderful to see the return of the British Clay Court Senior Tour Championships here at the Club. This international event saw 450+ matches across 37 age groups in one week and our congratulations go to West Hants familiar faces Andy, Boyd, Matt, and Pauline who all won titles! Thank you to all members for your patience and support during the busy tournament week.
We have an exciting Tennis Clinic here at West Hants led by Miles Maclagan coming soon. Miles is an ex-professional and formerly coached Andy Murray and Laura Robson so we cannot wait to welcome him. More details will follow in due course.
Please continue to check our website, social channels, and club noticeboards for all news & events!
With continued thanks for your support,
Best wishes,
Peter D Elviss
Chief Executive
PS. May we take the opportunity to remind members to swipe their Membership card at the turnstile to activate the gate and to mark your arrival. This is particularly important when attending Studio Classes as it will ensure our system records your arrival so you avoid paying the £5 'no show' charge. If you do not have your card please report to Reception before entering the Club.
